Boeing vs Airbus: victory of the US model

Date: 24-May-06   The Wall Street Journal
In one of the biggest aircraft industry battles, Boeing is pulling ahead of Airbus.

Without the temptation of having government handouts, its board (which admittedly has gone through some recent scandals) has kept its eye very much on the ball, guided by its goal of building shareholder wealth. It has cut costs, developed a strong defence business and avoided trying to come up with its own Superjumbos.

The result is a very impressive order book for its mid-sized 787s right through to 2011. Airbus, on the other hand, has had disappointing reactions to its A350 and sales for its A340 has dried up because of high fuel prices.
