35 Under 35: a celebration of female entrepreneurship

On the 4th October a group of highly successful women gathered at the Kempinski Hotel in London opposite Liberty's. They came from all corners of the globe -- Colombia, India, Russia, Tunisia and Ireland -- to name a few of the countries represented there. They were campaigners, social entrepreneurs and business women of the highest calibre.

What united them was the fact that they had all been selected by World Business and its judges Malini Mehra, Tashi Lassalle, Lourdes Casanova and Michael Backman to make up World Business' first list of the ‘35under35' produced in association with Shell.

Back in the early part of 2007 it had seemed hard to imagine that it would be possible to scour the world to find the most outstanding female individuals under the age of 35.

It was a tough assignment handed to the then World Business reporter Emilie Filou. But after pulling together the judge's panel and calling for nominations, Filou created the list (which is published in World Business, October 2007).

The evening was a huge success, in particular for the women involved. Having a chance to meet up when otherwise they would be thousands of miles apart was clearly appreciated. A new network may have been created that will last beyond that day in early October.
